A family pub in St Albans, Hertfordshire

Our family friendly pub in Sleapshyde, St Albans is a traditional thatched pub dating back to the 16th century. It has a cosy old world feel with lots of beams and a warm welcome. Although good quality home cooked food is served every day, at its heart The Plough remains a real pub serving a range of real ales, lagers, cider and fine wines; there is something for every palate.

There is even a ghost at The Plough. So far the ghost has proven to be friendly and has only thrown the occasional glass around, whistled a little and opened a few doors. Although late at night the ghost must invite lots of fellow spirits as many a party has been heard in the wee small hours!

Located in the tranquil setting of Sleapshyde and surrounded by fields The Plough has a large garden and patio, a large car park and a separate restaurant area. As a family pub in St Albans, Hertfordshire, The Plough is an ideal location for celebrations and has hosted numerous parties including weddings, christenings, engagements, divorces, funerals, birthdays, anniversaries, fancy dress, etc. If you can think of something to celebrate The Plough will be only too pleased to cater for your needs, from intimate private dinner parties to fun-filled bashes.

For the glorious sunny days there is a large garden and patio area; there is also a new children's play area to make sure the little ones are happy.  A smoking shelter is also provided for the less sunny days!

The Plough Pub is child friendly but, for the comfort of all guests, we ask all our patrons to supervise their children at all times.  Please don't allow children to wander/run around inside unattended - there is danger in hot food and drinks.     In line with the law children are only allowed on licensed premises up to 9pm.

There is a large screen TV for important terrestrial football/rugby matches, free WiFi and a private room for meetings/functions/private celebrations.

If you fancy a takeaway on nights when The Plough is not serving food (currently food is served on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights) order it from a local takeaway and have it delivered to The Plough. We supply the plates and cutlery and you can enjoy your favourite tipple with your takeaway.
